Spring 2021
Community Food Drive-By
In April 2021, Chef MJ and a group of dedicated volunteers assembled food and toiletry bags to distribute to individuals in need throughout the streets of Norfolk, VA. We prepared over 100 bags and returned with none, a clear reminder of how great the need was during the height of the COVID pandemic.
Fall 2021
Christmas Homeless Shelter Feeding
In December 2021, Chef MJ prepared a full holiday dinner spread and gathered a team of volunteers to assemble more than 150 plates. These meals were delivered to a local homeless shelter, ensuring that those in need could enjoy a warm and comforting Christmas dinner.
Spring 2024
Easter Shelter Feeding
In Easter 2024, in partnership with Union Mission in Norfolk, VA, Chef MJ and a team of volunteers prepared and cooked a full brunch for the men and women residing at the shelter. One resident even shared that it was ‘the best meal he’s ever had.’ In addition to the meal, Chef MJ coordinated with five barbers who generously provided free haircuts, helping residents feel refreshed and cared for.
Spring 2025
Career Day at Mac Ben Elementary School
Chef MJ participated in Career Day at Mac Ben Elementary School, where he not only demonstrated basic cooking techniques but also highlighted the importance of food safety and kitchen hygiene. He engaged with students through hands-on activities, answering their questions and encouraging their creativity in the kitchen. Through his presentation, Chef MJ aimed to inspire the next generation by showing them the possibilities of a culinary career and the skills, dedication, and passion required to become future chefs.
Fall 2025
FREE Thanksgiving Dinner Raffle
In response to the government cuts to the SNAP Benefit Program in November 2025, Chef MJ organized an online raffle to support families in need. Three winning families were awarded a fully catered Thanksgiving dinner, delivered directly to their homes on Thanksgiving Day, ensuring they could still enjoy a holiday meal despite the challenging circumstances.
